Mr. Miroslav Somol graduated from the School of Law at the Charles University in Prague (1975) and doctorate studies at the Institute of State and Law of the Czechoslovak Academy of Science (1984). After graduation, he worked in the field of foreign trade and international economic relations. In the years 1993-96 and 2001-2005, he held a post of a Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, with the responsibility for foreign trade policy, and, in the second period, also for European integration. In this position he led the EU accession negotiations on behalf of the Ministry. Also, he worked abroad as Commercial Attaché at the Czech Embassy in Syria and as the Ambassador at the Permanent Mission of the Czech Republic to the UN European Office in Geneva. During this period he also held the position of a Chairman of the Economic Commission of the UN for Europe and later the Chairman of the UN Conference for Industrial Development.
